3 point lighting techniques

Keys or main, fill and back light are the basic thoughts of 3 point lighting techniques. I often use this techniques to create dimension of the subject. Of course there are many ways to setup/arrange/placing 3 point lighting techniques to create dimension, but for sure with this technique, you will see how powerful combination between lights and shadow.

  • The Key Light  is your main light used on your subject.
  • The Fill Light is to create fill in the shadows that created by the key light, so we might have a control on the darkness side of the image
  • The Back Light is to separate the subject from the background.
I always begin with the key light first in arranging, then the fill light, last but not least the back light.

see the diagram below how I placed my 3 point lighting setup on my image "The Apparenza"

Again there are many ways to arrange your 3 point lighting technique, all depending on the needs and the taste, what kind effect you want and not to forget what you have as accessories for your lighting.

Thanks for your visit folks and hopefully you all enjoy the article and have fun with trying :D

Cheers
